Lodge Scoon & Perth, No. 3 Marks a Historic Transition as It Enters a New Chapter in Perth, Scotland

Lodge Scoon & Perth, No. 3 – one of the oldest Masonic lodges in the world – has completed the sale of its historic premises at 5 Atholl Crescent, Perth. The building, an A-listed Georgian townhouse dating to the late 18th century, along with its purpose-built Masonic Temple, had served as the Lodge’s home for over 90 years.

While the decision to sell was not made lightly, the increasing financial burden of maintaining such a significant heritage property had become unsustainable for the Lodge’s long-term future.

This is not the end of anything — it is the beginning of an exciting new chapter. With over 850 years of history behind us, we are now positioning ourselves for a strong, vibrant future in the second quarter of the 21st century.

The Lodge, whose recorded history dates to the mid-twelfth century with its foundation at Scoon Abbey, continues to be an active and respected part of Scotland’s Masonic landscape. The sale of the building allows the Lodge to redirect its focus toward strengthening its membership, enhancing charitable and masonic educational work, and modernising its vision — all while staying true to the timeless principles of brotherhood, tradition, and relief.

Importantly, the Lodge is pleased to confirm that the new owner has kindly agreed to allow the Lodge's meetings to continue in the Lodge Rooms, with access via Blackfriars Street.

We are deeply grateful for the generous cooperation of the new owner, which allows us to maintain continuity of place as we move forward without the financial responsibility of building ownership.

Lodge Scoon & Perth, No. 3 will continue to serve the local community and the wider Masonic fraternity, building upon centuries of tradition as it embraces the opportunities of the future.
